Trump’s Oval Office meeting yesterday was mostly on defense, but he also made strong remarks on tariffs. He said India and China are “killing us with tariffs”, pointing out how India has some of the highest duties in the world while their goods face almost no tariffs entering the U.S. Just last week, his administration doubled tariffs on Indian imports to 50% on textiles, gems, seafood, and furniture, citing India’s Russian oil trade. Trump added that India recently offered to cut tariffs on U.S. goods to zero, but said it was “too late” after years of what he called a one-sided relationship. Meanwhile, U.S. courts have ruled much of his tariff program illegal, but allowed it to stay in place until Oct 14. Trump confirmed he will ask the Supreme Court for a fast-track ruling, warning that striking down tariffs would be “devastation for our country.”
